World Swimming Championships

In the FINA world swimming championship in Barcelona – USA stood first bagging 15 gold medals ,followed closely by China with 14 gold medals. The top news maker was 18 year old Missy Franklin of USA who won 6 gold medals ( 100m bckstrk,200m bckstrk,200m frstyle,4x100m frstyle,4x200m frstyle,4x100m medley)-becoming the first woman to win six titles in a World championship. A total of 5 world records were broken in the memorable championship – all by women – 2 records each by Lithuania’s Meilutyte (50m & 100m breaststroke) & USA’s Ledecky (1500m & 800m) both of whom are just 16 years of age.
